6. Expert System for Quality Assessment of Electronic Book Exhibitions

7. The Last Rulers of Great Empires: Two Typological Parallels

• Abstract: The article is devoted to the prophecies of «The Book of Daniel» and to its interpretation. The recent data associated with the study of the manuscripts, stored in the Russian State Library (RSL), allow to reappraise the role of the ancient texts, which attracted attention not only at the early stages of the existence of civilizations, but in the modern period as well. There is discussed the concept of changing of monarchs and monarchies, by which were governed the outstanding historiographers and historians of the past. In connection with the tragic death in summer of 1918 of the family of the last Russian Emperor Nikolay Alexandrovich Romanov again there was escalated the interest to the prophecies contained in the book, presented to the second Tsar of the Romanov Dynasty — Alexei Mikhailovich («The Most Peaceful»).

• Abstract: The paper is devoted to N.V.Stankevitch, the spiritual leader of the young Russian intellectuals of 1830-s and the founder of the famous literary-philosophic society. Its members were outstanding people, whose activities were seared into the history of the Russian culture. The paper, inspired by Stankevitch’s letters to V.G.Belinsky and M.A.Bakunin, for the first time considers the importance of self-education reading in forming the human intellect, morality and aesthetic sense.

17. The Digitized Newspaper Collections as the National Heritage of the Russian Federation

• Abstract: Current issues of digitization of newspapers’ collections are in the focus of this topic. There is discussed sharing of responsibilities on digitization of newspapers, selection of criteria and digitization priorities. Particularly, the determination of the scanning method (in the library or outsourced) and the solutions for the best representation of newspapers: as artifacts or as information set, are of great importance. There is provided the detailed analysis of the activities of federal and regional libraries, newspapers publishers and commercial information centers, dealing with digitization of the national printed newspapers. The emphasis was made to the problems of practical protection of copyright and intellectual property in digitization of the periodicals and in the usage of these materials by institutions, including libraries.

• Abstract: The article deals with the little-investigated questions of the history of ‘knigonoshestvo’ in Russia. At the example of ofeni activities there is shown the degree of the need for books in the rural area. There is analyzed the Lubok literature, the main book goods of pedlars. There are identified the reasons of downturn of ofeni trade in the late XIX-th — early XX-th сentury and the value of bookleggers in distribution of literacy and introduction of peasants to the reading.

19. First Book Collections and the Libraries of Yamal
