Newspaper Collection

Around 671 thousand storage units. Among them:

• 626 units — national newspapers in Russian;
• 25 thousand units — newspapers in the languages of the peoples of Russia and the CIS countries;
• about 20 thousand units — newspapers in foreign languages of the European countries.

It has a massive collection of local newspapers in the Russian language ,newspapers in the languages of the peoples of Russia and the CIS countries, in languages of the European countries. It includes newspapers which are in strong demand: Moscow (central) and regional, working copies of microfilms of decrepit and especially valuable editions; reference books and encyclopedias of a general nature.

The most valuable part of the collection — pre-revolutionary Russian newspapers of the 1801—1918 period (more than 5 thousand titles) and publications of the period of the first years of Soviet power during the years 1917—1922 (more than 4 thousand titles). Among the collection of Russian domestic publications these collection stand out: 'Russian newspapers of the civil letter. 1801—1830', 'Regional newspapers. 1866—1918', 'Newspapers of the First Russian revolution. 1905—1907', 'The newspapers of the first years of Soviet power. 1917—1922', etc.

In addition, the collection of newspapers issued by the White Army on the occupied lands during the Civil War and the ones from the occupied territories of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War are part of the collection of the Russian literature abroad.
