Abstract: Since 2009 the specialists of the Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library after M. Gorky has been working on the first long-term research project to study the pre-revolutionary history of the Volgograd region libraries. The study is based on the information and bibliographic work that is collecting and analysing documents and printed materials of the XVIII — beginning XXI centuries. The historical information about the librarianship of the Tsaritsynsky district of Saratovskaya province (now Volgograd Region) is included into the context of the article.
