Abstract: 'Preservation' and 'accessibility' — these two concepts represent core directions of activities of libraries, archives and museums. Based on the experience of research-and-development Document Conservation Centre of the Russian State Library, the article considers the possibility of the existence, interaction and development of these directions in a harmonious collaboration, without replacing one another.
