March 31, 2011 the Federal Agency for the Press and Mass Communications, in conjunction with the RSL will hold the first international scientific conference 'Bibliophilia and private collections'. There will be a great deal of material devoted to private collections of old books, their owners and particular issues on the history of bibliophilia. The impending event is supported by the TV channel 'Kultura', RIA 'Novosty', ITAR-TASS, 'Russiyskaya Gazeta', 'Literaturnaya Gazeta' and the magazines: 'Bibliographia', 'Bibliotekovedenie', 'Observatoria Kulturi', 'Nashe Nasledie', 'Pro Knigi'. The conference will be held as a plenary session.
The following topics are planned for discussion:
- Reconstruction of the personal libraries of XIX—XXI centuries;
- Description of modern private book collections and the history of their creation;
- Famous bibliophiles of the past;
- Private book collections in the antique and bibliopole trade;
- Historical context of book collecting in the XX — early XXI century;
- Memoirs of bibliophiles, catalogues of private libraries and other bibliophilic literature as a source of knowledge;
- Private collections in public fund depositories: obscure pages and foreign collections of Russian books, autographs, 'Rossica', books with illustrations by Russian artists and their owners;
- Bibliophile organizations and their activities.
The invited parties are: owners of private collections of old books, antique business experts, such specialists as the employees of libraries, museums, archives, science and research institutes, universities, publishing houses, as well as government representatives, NGOs and the media.
The materials from the conference 'Bibliophilia and private collections' will be published as a digest.
Documents are accepted before November 1, 2010.
