Euterpe, 1872The grand opening of the Congress of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Information Centres (International Association of Music Libraries (IAML) will commence on June 27, 2010 at 18:30 on the premises of the Russian Academy of Public Administration (RAPA). It is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the RF, the Moscow State Conservatory of P. I. Tchaikovsky, the RSL, State Central Museum of Musical Culture of M. I. Glinka, RLA, RNL and the Russian Branch of IAML. The musical greeting for the Congress (fanfare) was written by Rodion Saccharin, Soviet and Russian composer, the People’s Artist of the USSR and the laureate of Lenin and State prizes.

The Congress will be attended by 220 representatives of the largest music libraries and archives in the world, as well as information centres and publishers from 39 countries. At the cultural and exhibition centre of the RSL (Pashkov House), guests will be presented with the art of an old-time music orchestra under the baton of Pavel Serbin 'Pratum Integrum' and the ensemble of soloists of the Taneiev Music Society 'Russian Mozarteum' under the leadership of Michael Nikeshichev.

But over here, in Pashkov House, the Congress participants can get acquainted with musical funds of printed music and sound recordings and the science and research department of manuscripts. In anticipation of this significant event the RSL staff are preparing an exhibition of rare printed music editions, stored in the Library.

The program of events includes reports from experts and scientists who will be represented at meetings of sections and committees. Sections will begin work on a daily basis from 9:00 to 17:00 on June 28.

The participants are also scheduled to participate in travelling seminars to museum estates 'Arkhangelskoe', 'Kuskovo' and Museum of M. I. Glinka.

The Congress of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Information Centres will continue until July 2, 2010.

Entrance to the territory of RAPA is only available for those on the list. Passport is required.
